“JAI HIND”

one of my most favorite south indian snack

Kadalai Parupu Suliyan

Ingredients:

1. Chana dal - 2cups (boil in water for 15 mins and drain it nicely),
2. Jaggery - 3 cups,
3. Maida - 1 cup,
4. Cardomom powder - 3 tsp,
5. Baking soda - 1 tsp,
6. Oil - for frying,
7. Salt - 2 tsp.

Procedure:

1. Crunch the boiled dal and make into granulated powder.
2. Add cardomom powder to the dal powder and mix well.
3. Then take jaggery in a vessel, add 1 tsp salt in it and some water to dissolve while heating.
4. After some time jaggery will dissolve completely and boils nicely, at that time take out the vessel from heat.
5. Now add the jaggery syrup to the dal mixture and mix well and make into thick dough and make into small balls.
6. Make a slightly thick batter with maida, baking soda, salt and water.
7. Heat oil in kadai, dip the gram balls in the maida batter and put in semi-hot oil.
8. Fry the balls until they are puffy, crispy and slightly golden brown in colour.
9. Put them in a plate with paper towel to drain excess oil and serve hot!!

My favourite Pudding

Ingredients :

Condensed Milk - 1 tin
Egg - 3
Cashew Nut - 50 gm
Raisins - 25 gm
Vanilla Essence - 5 drops

Method :

Mix condensed milk in hot water. Beat the eggs well with an egg beater and mix it with the condensed milk. Add vanilla essence to it. Apply ghee evenly on a dish and pour the mixture into it. Close with a tight lid.

Take some water in a pressure cooker and place the dish inside and cook it in steam. Do not put the weight of the cooker. Cook for about 20 minutes. Allow to cool.

Cut each of the cashew nuts into 4 pieces. Fry cashew nuts and raisins in ghee. Spread this over the pudding and keep in the refrigerator to cool.

Take pleasure in inhaling the refreshing scent of mint every day. Today, mint plants are available in immense diversity offering several lovely fragrances. Growing mint is easy however; confining the growth that is invasive in nature is a bit tricky. Mints are perennial vegetation and can thrive in any condition. If you are planning to grow mint in your own garden, then it is extremely crucial to know all about it before beginning the plantation. It is also important to understand and know about all the varieties available at the nurseries like spearmint, peppermint, chocolate mint, etc. that can be grown at home without much ado.
How to grow Mint?
Mints can grow in any or all directions covering the entire bed which can with time become a troublesome weedy problem. It is therefore extremely crucial to curb the excessive growth of the plant in order to maintain a proper mint garden. There are various methods that can be implemented to perform the same. You can plant mint in a pot and then bury it directly in the soil or use metallic or plastic edging around it confine the growth of the crazy roots.
In case of Spearmints the roots spread even when placed in the pot so, metal edgings are required.
Let’s take Spearmint as an example and learn how we can grow it at home.
Spearmint requires full sun for growth, although it can thrive in partial sunlight as well. When grown in full sun it produces greater oil content which adds much flavor to the herb. A well drained rich soil with lots of moisture content is also essential for an optimum growth of the plant. Traditionally, spearmint was planted underneath the garden’s faucet to get moisture from the dripping water. Soil additives for instance, nitrogen fertilizers, composts and manure help the plant to produce big and healthy foliage.
Spearmint can be grown from seeds and cutting both, however, easy and quick propagation takes place with cuttings while seeds take a lot of time. Get spearmint seedling from a nursery and plant them 45 inches apart. Water the seedling frequently. Keep the soil moist but not over water it or it will ruin the plant. Watering at standard intervals will result in better plantation.
Once the spearmint herbs start to blossom, harvest it. During harvesting, remove one third of the plant, its branches as well as leaves. The rest of the plant will be harvested later after its re-growth. Use the spearmint leaves immediately as the leaves do not dry nicely.
If you wish to delay the flower formation, keep trimming the plant and use those trimmings for food preparation. Trimming the spearmint plant will keep it constrained and confined to its limits.

The spearmint flowers are widely used in teas for flavor so include some flowers in your trimmings too and enjoy the aromatic tea. The flowering stalks are also used to impart a great smell to the house. Just cut the stalks or the whole sprig before the flowers open. Wash and remove the dry and dull ones. Now, place the entire lot in the dehydrator. Most of the times, I use my dehydrator with seven layers and change the order of the stack after couple of hours. Drying mint in such a way spreads a fantastic smell around the house.

Use the foliage, followers or stems of spearmint plant for flavoring food and brighten up your spirits. The tea prepared from spearmint treats digestive problems. The plant has some antiseptic properties too like curing bruises, rheumatoid arthritis and muscle spasms.
Varieties and Uses
There is more to know about mints than just its plantation. Depending on several factors mints are also listed as Red Mints or Peppermints that include Moroccan, basil, Lime, Orange, Chocolate, Bergamot, and Lavender Mint; Green Mint or Spearmint consisting Kentucky Colonel, Curly Mint, Swiss and Lemon Bergamot Mint; and lastly Gray Mints which are Pineapple, Apple and Egyptian Mints. Apart from the classic flavors Mountain Mints and Horsemints are also available. Certain fake mints like Australian and Jamaican Mints are grown for flavors too. Experiment with these tantalizing flavors and add taste and aroma to salads, beverages, jellies and various other scrumptious food items. So, let us now know some of the mint varieties and their uses.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita): a very effective mint herb used to get relieved from indigestion, heartburn and nausea. Peppermint schnapps relieves head colds while Peppermint tea cures hiccups. It is also used in various food recipes and jellies.
Spearmint: when chewed it curbs appetite and freshens breath. In kitchen it is used to prepare mint juleps, jellies, sauces, teas, and to enhance flavor of a fruit salad.
Pineapple mint: It makes a cheese platter appear rich and also helps in cooling down spicy foods. Use Pineapple mint to garnish the exterior of cheese log for any celebration.
Ginger mint: Dresses up pesto or salads.
Chocolate mint: It is used as a topping on hot chocolate and ice creams.
Apple mint: Leave the apple mint leaves in water and create an unforgettable summer with such a refreshing fragrance. Add it to iced tea pitchers or prepare Mint Juleps for parties.
Care and protection
Growing mint is easy if you are well aware of all the climate, soil, sun, water and several other conditions that are required to be taken care of before and after planting.
• Keep a check on the growth of the herbs regularly even if planted in pots.
• Never put two different mint varieties in a single pot.
• These herbs require much water and full sun but have no specification for garden soil.
• Every year repot mints with fresh new soil.
• For better results use 12 inches wide pot potted with compost-rich soil which is sufficiently moist with regular water supply. You can even use fish emulsion too.
• Clip off any stray growth that appears to rise from other shallow rhizomes.
• Retain moisture using light mulch and keep the leaves clean.
• Plant mints a foot apart and keep them contained. Remove the bottom of the pot and then bury them in soil or you can also use metal or plastic edging around herb to contain and curb their excess growth.

Rust is an extremely harmful disease for mints which plagues its growth. It appears as orange spots at the back of the leaves. In order to control it use Organic Dust. Growing mints near roses will deter the garden pests.

A man hated his wife's cat and he decided to get rid of it. He drove
20 blocks away from home and dropped the cat there. The cat was
already walking up the driveway when he approached his home.

The next day, he decided to drop the cat 40 blocks away but the same
thing happened. He kept increasing the number of blocks but the cat
kept coming home before him.

At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left,
past the bridge, then right again and another right and so on until he
reached what he thought was a perfect spot and dropped the cat there.

An hour later.... The man calls his wife at home and asked her, "Jen
is the cat there?" "Yes, why do you ask?" answered the wife.

Frustrated the man said," Put that damn cat on the phone, I am lost
and I need directions to reach home!!!

Moral:

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed

Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with them on
the way home. Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do
their homework, then set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did
the ironing.
At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad, breaded
the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.

After supper, he cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher, folded laundry,
bathed the kids, and put them to bed.

At 9 P.M. he was exhausted and, though his daily chores weren't finished,
he went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he managed to get
through without complaint.
The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said: Lord,
I don't know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife's being
able to stay home all day. Please, oh please, let us trade back."

The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied: "My son, I feel you have learned
your lesson and I will be happy to change things back to the way they were.
You'll just have to wait nine months, though. You got pregnant last night."

“Study skills are boring!” That is what most students tell me

Boring!? These are skills that can help them get better grades
and spend less time on homework how can they be boring?

Honestly, there is a good explanation for the bad rap that study
skills have developed over the years because a lot of boring
things are labeled as “study skills.” Learning how to use guide
words in a dictionary...a necessary skill, but boring! SQ3R a
reading strategy with many merits, but leaves me asking, “Who
wants to take the time to do all five steps?” Boring! Identifying
the main idea and supporting details on endless worksheets?
Another important skill, but still boring.

There is a broader and more important role study skills should be
playing in the lives of our middle and high school students,
especially in our current Information Age, when we must prepare
students for many careers and jobs that do not even exist yet.
Study skills are:

* The skills required to be an independent learner. * Skills
that build confidence. * Skills that develop efficiency. * Skills
that improve performance to prepare our students for high-stakes
tests and the globally competitive job market of the future. *
Skills that enable students to be proactive, make good decisions,
and think critically.

The LAST thing they should be is boring!

We were all born with a natural desire to learn. Infants,
toddlers, and pre-schoolers love to explore their world and take
pride in learning new things. Just yesterday, my four-year-old
was so excited about learning that he stood on top of his chair
and raised both arms in triumph exclaiming in a
‘na-na-na-na-na-na’ tone, “I learned a new wo-rd! I learned a new
wo-rd!” THAT was utter exhilaration over learning!

But, sometime in the elementary years, most students lose that
enthusiasm for learning, usually because they lose all of their
choices. Learning becomes dictated by their teachers, school
districts, and state-mandated curriculum. They are suddenly
swallowed into a bureaucracy of texts, tests, and lectures that
would bore any rational human being.

Much of these mandates and “lack of choices” are and will remain
out of students’ control, but there is a vital component we can
offer students to bring some pizzazz back to learning. Teach them
study skills principles and strategies to be organized and learn
efficiently. Show them they have the power to beat the system.
Well, maybe not beat the system, but at least work with the
system strategically to be successful. When strategic learning
enters the picture, students regain some control. They develop
personal power. And they learn important life-long skills that
will someday help them manage a home and career.

These may sound like lofty concepts, but they have real, concrete
implications. For example, as parents and educators:

* We can acknowledge that organizing papers and school-work is
difficult because traditional systems actually complicate the
process. We can then explore principles for organizing and
strategies to simplify the process. * We can acknowledge that
text-books are boring. But, if students understand how to
maximize their brain’s learning process, they can be strategic
readers and exponentially increase their reading comprehension
while only reading a fraction of the text. * When we want to say,
“Why can’t you plan ahead?!” we can pause and understand that
they have never really learned how to plan ahead. Armed with that
perspective, we can help them discover how to prioritize their
time and think proactively. There is a commercial that depicts
two professionals heading into their office building at the
beginning of the day. They are both neatly groomed and dressed
professionally. You can presume from their appearance and
surroundings that they are well-educated people. They are both
half-way up an escalator when the escalator suddenly stops.

They look shocked and bewildered. “I don’t need this!” complains
the woman. “Figures!” grumbles the man. They look around in panic
and start feeling around for their cell phones, but both discover
they have forgotten their phones at home.

As the commercial continues, these two “smart professionals”
remain stranded for what appears to be hours, yelling and
screaming for help and wallowing in their unfortunate sorrow that
they are stuck on an escalator. That’s right it’s an escalator,
NOT an elevator.

Are you wondering why they don’t just stand up and walk off?

That’s the point of the commercial...some solutions are so
blatantly obvious to some, but not to all. Students, in
particular, are commonly stuck on their own escalators, running
for help every time they get stuck and not employing any
strategies or critical thinking to move forward.

Arming students with study skills --skills for thinking
strategically about organizing, managing time, and learning--
gives them the power to simply stand up and walk off their own
escalator.

Taking control over their learning? Learning how to ‘play in the
system’ with strategy? There is nothing boring about that!

Information, much of it in the form of written content, is what
drives the Internet. As a result, article writing is extremely
important to Internet entrepreneurs who wish to succeed. But
sometimes circumstances arise when the articles just aren't
coming.

Writer's block happens to the best of us. I have cases of it all
the time. I'll be sitting at my keyboard, staring into a blank
screen, just hoping that a decent thought will jump into my head
and I can start typing again. One minute goes by, then two, then
ten, and nothing happens. Drat!

If this has ever happened to you, you know how frustrating it can
be. In my personal experience, writer's block usually occurs
when I have not adequately prepared myself to write at the
particular time at which I'm trying to write. What I mean is, I
have ideas for articles all the time. Unfortunately, they usually
show up when I'm in the shower, driving down the highway, in the
middle of trying to complete ten other things and something just
"pops into my head", or lying in bed at 3:00am. But, when it's
time to recapture my thoughts, when I'm sitting down and ready
to write, nothing.

If this sounds familiar, if you're in a bit of a slump or can't
seem to get or hold onto a decent article writing idea, here are
some tips:

1) If you get ideas frequently, but can't seem to recall them
when you need them, "sticky notes" and a small notepad work
wonders.

I know, it seems ridiculously simple. No rocket science here, but
I'm telling you if you've never tried this, it works. The
problem is not that you don't have ideas that can be transformed
into great articles. The problem is that you're not capturing
the ideas you have.

Keeping small notepads (we don't want to create clutter, because

for yet another article) around the house, in the car, on your
desks or anywhere else you tend to frequent, helps you to record
important or creative ideas as soon as you get them (or soon
thereafter). By taking time to "jot down" your thoughts as they
come, you create a means of saving them; a record and a resource.
Then, when you're in a position to do something with the ideas,
or when your "well runs dry", you have a great tool at your
disposal. (Note: Using a personal voice recorder instead of a
notepad, will work just as well.)

2) If getting ideas in the first place is your problem, here are
three quick idea sources: current news (What's going on that
affects your niche?), industry news (What are the new/hot trends,
what changes are occurring, what are people saying/doing? ), and
current problems or challenges your audience may face.

Each of these sources can be reviewed quickly without taking too
much of your time or effort. They can each provide the "seeds"
from which to generate interesting and helpful articles. In
addition, don't overlook the value of your own experience. Your
challenges, successes and failures are likely very similar to
those of other individuals who are involved and interested in the
same things as are you. Often, just writing about a subject and
offering readers a different perspective can provide a great deal
of benefit to your audience.

3) My final tip...Don't force it.

If you're experiencing difficulty with your article writing,
walk away. If you're attempting to write an article and nothing
is happening, STEP AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER (or paper or
notepad).

Turn your attention elsewhere. Feed the cat, walk the dog, get
some fresh air. Do something to break away from your writing.
Engage yourself in activities that are completely different. Then
return to your writing task with a refreshed mind and renewed
energy. I believe you'll find that you can write. If however,
your "dry spell" lasts more than momentarily, my advice is
still the same. Disengage, even for a period of a day or two if
needed, and completely immerse yourself in other things. When you
feel refreshed, come back to your writing and begin again.

Although there may be similarities in the actions of individuals
involved in the task, article writing is somewhat different for
everyone who does it. As writers, we all have different routines,
different rituals, and different methodologies according to what
works best for each of us. Invariably though, at some point or
other, every writer comes to a point when their engine stalls.

The best advice is to keep yourself renewed and refreshed on a
regular basis. Avoid getting so involved in your writing (or for
you who are entrepreneurs, any of the other gazillion tasks you
perform), that you exclude all else. This will help you to
maintain a fresh perspective, and that "freshness" will
certainly be reflected in your ability to write, as well as in
the quality of your writing.

But when a difficult period does arise, be prepared. Have the
tools in place to help you to get your article writing started
and going again. Hopefully the tips included within this article
will help you to do just that. Happy writing!

statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts
that make your fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by

Another thing to remember is that things change and events do not

stay the same. For instance, you may feel overwhelmed today with

your anxiety and feel that this is how you will feel the rest of

the week or month. This isn't correct. No one can predict the
future with 100 Percent accuracy. Even if the thing that you
feared does happen there are circumstances and factors that you
can't predict which can be used to your advantage. You never
know
when the help and answers you are looking for will come to you.

As a Layman, I realize it is not easy to deal with all of our
fears. When your fears and anxieties have the best of you, seek
help from a professional. The key is to be patient, take it slow,

and not to give up. In time, you will be able to find those
resources that will help you with your problems.

Ingredients:

1 apple

1 cup pomegranate seeds

1 medium-size tomato

Method

Wash, peel and dice the apple.

Dice the tomato and add it to the apple and pomegranate in the blender. There is no need to de-seed the pomegranate, just remove it from the skin and put it in the blender.

Add water for a fine consistency. Do not strain the juice.

The name Google is a spelling error. The founders of the site, Larry page and Sergey Brin, thought they were going for 'Googol.' Googol is the mathematical term for 1 followed by 100 zeros. The term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, Mathematics and the Imagination by Kasner and James Newman. Google's play on the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.

Initially, Larry and Sergey Brin called their search engine BackRub, named for its analysis of the of the web's "back links." The search for a new name began in 1997, with Larry and his officemates starting a hunt for a number of possible new names for the rapidly improving search technology.

The reason the google page is so bare is because the founder didn’t know HTML and just wanted a quick interface.

Lalung - Man who spent 54 yrs in jail

Machang Lalung, who was kept under custody for more than half a century without a trial and forgotten, is dead released in July 2005.

The 77-year-old man was beginning to savour freedom with his family in his village near Tezpur when death snatched him away.

Lalung was only 23 when he was arrested in 1951 for a petty crime and never faced a trial. He went on to serve almost 54 years initially in police custody and later on at the Tezpur Mental hospital.

Lalung was in custody for so long that he even forgot the reason why he was sent to jail in the first place. After living in an asylum for so long, Lalung could barely put his thoughts across. He lived his last days with his niece Sadhna Pator. But for the 77-year-old justice came 54 years too late.

‘I Am Legend’

Richard Matheson's fiction ‘I Am Legend’ is an upcoming 2007 American post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Will Smith hits the Indian screens on December 14th.

It is the fourth film adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel I Am Legend, following 1964's The Last Man on Earth, 1971's The Omega Man and 2007's straight to video I Am Omega. Its all about advance science’s dominant in earth.

Smith plays the role of Robert Neville, perhaps Earth's only survivor of a man-made virus. He works to create a cure but is stalked by nocturnally mutant survivors of the blight.

Early next year, a small team of committed international adventurers will undertake a massive journey never before attempted.
The aim is simple, but the execution will be a great challenge: starting January 2008, a team of seven international adventurers, and two drivers, will pilot a mammoth, 16.5m long, specially configured bus on a journey from Budapest, Hungary, right across Western Europe and North Africa to Bamako, Mali and back. Known as the Bus Number 7 project, the team are preparing to cover well over 20,000km.
Along the way the team will have to tackle every obstacle imaginable, from sand storms, impenetrable Saharan sand-dunes to the daunting African border control, all with only their wits and a good slice of luck to rely on. The journey will break boundaries never before crossed as it makes a record-breaking crossing of the Sahara in a first for a vehicle of its kind.
For such an epic journey, the team are fortunately well-prepared, with a wealth of experience adversity between them. Team leader Aravind Bremanandam, spends most of his spare time organising the Autorickshaw Challenge, a project he set up back in 2006 and which sees teams from around the world driving the legendary 3-wheelers right across India. Fellow team-mate Attila Berényi is a veteran of the 2006 and 2007 Budapest-Bamako rallies, which will be of great value as the Bus Number 7 project will be the star participant of the Budapest Bamako 2008 rally on its outward journey.
More than just a journey though, the Bus Number 7 project’s mission is to use this incredible journey as not-for-profit event raising money for the local children of Western Africa . The team see the positive power and popularity of sport as a suitable partnering spirit for the project to brighten the lives of these children, and aim to deliver sports equipment to schools and villages in collaboration with community leaders. Furthermore, Bus Number 7 aims to become an institution in itself, with the voyage to Africa just the beginning of things to come. After the initial journey to Bamako , the Bus will spend months touring Europe to promote the project and raise awareness of its charity mission.

If we think about pets, in a fraction of seconds we go for a puppy dog, why we say no to for cats…

You know Cats are cute and sweet… I feel that cats are adorable and make such wonderful pets. They are tiny and don't take up much space…You can even have a cat or two in a flat unlike a dog.They don't expect us to love them all the time nor we needn't waste our time in taking them for a walk or to struggle with them for a bath... They are very clean and don't eat too much. Cats are usually timid creatures and they seldom bite…

Thats our pretty cats…
